I bought the latest
edition of the Oxford Reference Dictionary today. From the place that
most Kolkattans rush to when they need a book - College Street. The
marked price was Rs 2169. And, guess what, I bought the book for Rs
1000. Not a penny more, not a penny less. That amounts to a discount of more than 50 per cent
! I still cannot help but wonder how much the shopkeeper must have
bought it for... ( I also bought Amartya Sen's "The Argumentative
Indian" at a 20 per cent discount but that is quite unrelated. )
